"5 out of 10 or a work for five matrices and ten prints"
Intaglio and Digital printing graphic installation

Bachelor's Degree in Copperplate Studio at the Faculty of Graphic Arts, Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow.

The theme of this work refers to graphic scores, the visual recording of musical language. Graphic scores began to appear in the 20th century with the advent of the musical avant-garde and the emergence of such compositional techniques as serialism and dodecaphony. Dynamics, expression, rhythm and tonality are concepts used by both visual and sound composers. When creating my matrices, I think of them as sounds or bars, from which I later assemble an entire installation. By overprinting a pair of dies in different colors on top of each other, I allude to polyphony, the sounding of many sounds at one time. Like a piece of music, I can use pauses and mutes, or simply "mix" my images as contemporary electronic music artists do. By mixing and blending different tracks and sounds together, a sort of "musical collage" is created. Subsequent graphics are like sounds produced by an instrument or synthesizer and depending on their placement in the entire installation, the combination resulting from the use of color, or the imposition of another matrix, their meaning in the context of the entire composition changes. Thanks to the musical way of thinking about the artwork, I am not limited by the classical format or the number of prints needed to create the installation. It is accompanied by a soundtrack written by me, as a musical notation closely based on the created graphic installation. In my work I try to be interdisciplinary by combining my two passions, music and graphics. I try to find dependencies between them and let them permeate each other. The relationships between the sounds I try to translate into the graphic language by using compositional techniques.

The work was presented, among others, at the exhibition "SEE" organized jointly by the Faculty of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and the Association for International Graphic Art Triennial in Krakow. The exhibition took place in the Cracovia Pavilion, which is part of the National Museum in Krakow.  The project also qualified for the international exhibition "European Masters Printmaking 2019" organized by KoMASK Award at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. 32 artists from 16 Universities from 15 different countries participated in the exhibition. The exhibition took place between 14.11.2019 and 22.11.2019 in Antwerp, Belgium. A catalog was published for the exhibition. The work has also been featured on the Best Graphics Diploma page of the International Print Triennial Society in Cracow.
